A Day in My Life - July

Little Jenny Wren has been hosting A Day in My Life since March and I've enjoyed participating in it so much. It's fun to take a peek into the lives of the other participants. It's all about chronicling an ordinary day.

Today I intended to take the girls to visit my grandmother, but she said last night that she wasn't feeling well and didn't think she would be good company. We're going to try again tomorrow.

I woke this morning about 6:00 to a loud clap of thunder and the sound of heavy rain. That encouraged me to snuggle deeper into my bed and sleep a little while longer. :) I knew that I had no schedule or agenda today, so I had the luxury of sleeping in. I didn't actually get out of bed until after Mike left for work.

The girls were still asleep, so I turned on some soft music, made my coffee and cereal and had my quiet time. I read two chapters in Acts.

I always make big breakfasts on the weekends, so Monday's breakfast is usually YOYO (you're on your own). The girls woke up about the time I finished my reading and had cereal and juice.

While the girls were eating I stripped my bed, put my sheets in the washer and did a quick pick up around the house. Then I did my 2 mile walk exercise video (while the girls giggled) and checked the church website to see the new pictures from Bobby's mission trip (the youth pastor posts new pictures every night). I also emailed Mike, emptied the dishwasher and did what little breakfast dishes we had.

Then the girls and I took a quick turn around the very wet garden to see how everything was doing and checked the rain gauge. Can you believe that tomato plant? It's about 4 feet tall and spilling over the edge of the garden. The rain gauge showed 9/10ths of an inch.

After my daily phone calls with my mom and my best friend it was mid-morning and I still hadn't had my shower! Ick! So, I showered, got made up and dressed. I decided to wear my hair curly today because it's SO humid. There was no point in trying to straighten it.

I decided that for a special treat while it was just us girls at home, we would have a fun "girly" afternoon. We went out for lunch at Subway, which the girls loved. Then we went to Tuesday Morning where I got a cute decorating book and a pilates DVD and exercise band. I spent a little over $10 with tax for all of it.

Here's a page in the book.

Then we decided to head to a nearby antique "mall".

We found so many things we just loved. I found some cute aprons, table linens, and dishes that were calling my name, but we left without buying anything. Most of it was just too expensive.

Here are some of the fun things that we saw. I love these old radios.

Aren't these chairs cute and retro? I think they must have come from a waiting room or something. They are all joined together. If you look in the mirror, you can also see some old theater seats for sale.

After leaving the antique mall, we went to the dollar store where I got some sandwich bread and dishwasher detergent, then picked up Mike's dry cleaning, then home. When we got home I checked the mail and yippee, I had some freebies. I just love getting freebies in the mail!

I made the bed up with clean sheets and sat down with my cookbooks (and looked at The Pioneer Woman Cooks) to decide what I want to put on the menu for this week. I need to get the grocery shopping done in the next day or two.

For supper, we just had a simple meal of sandwiches with homemade pimento cheese, and salad. No heating up the kitchen! :)

After I did the supper dishes, Mike and I sat on the swing in the front yard for a bit and watched the girls play.

Now it's getting dark and I'm again hearing the rumble of thunder. The girls are watching a DVD and I have another load of laundry in the washer and one in the dryer. I need to check email and finish the laundry, then I'll probably settle down with my new book and head to bed.

Goodnight! :)

A Day in My Life

Tomorrow is the 14th (I can't believe it's here already) and I once again have the privilege of participating in A Day in My Life hosted by Little Jenny Wren.

The girls and I will be off bright and early to visit my grandmother who lives about an hour away. Mike will be at work and Bobby is off on a mission trip in the Big City (more on that later). Hope you're having a wonderful, restful Sunday and I'll see you when we get home tomorrow! :)

A Day in My Life - April

I'm joining Jenny again for A Day in My Life.

She says:
"The purpose is not to show how busy, lazy, exciting or organised your life is though it may be all of those things. The purpose is just to document a day and over a period of time document a series of days to look back on."

Be sure and check out her blog to read about her day and see the links to others who are taking part.

Today was a little different from my usual Mondays. School is out today and Mike is home. We had a very busy weekend, so today was a perfect opportunity for us to sleep in. We straggled into the kitchen one at a time for breakfast (make your own) and spent most of the morning in our PJs. It was so nice not to be rushing off somewhere. Mike and I were still sitting around drinking coffee at 10:00 am! I threw our sheets in the washer and that's about the extent of my morning accomplishments. :)

After sandwiches for lunch I made my menu and grocery list and did a quick fridge cleaning. I try to wipe down spills and throw out anything yucky before I shop. I usually go grocery shopping on Fridays and didn't get to it last week. We had an almost bare pantry and fridge. Mike stayed home with the kids, so I went to the post office and grocery store by myself. When I got home everyone helped bring in the groceries (it was a LOT) and put things away.

Once we had all the groceries put away, it was time to once again have Cindy lace up her cleats and head out to the softball field for a game.

They lost the game, but played hard. The team they played is one of the three best in the league and doesn't have any first year players. About half our team is first year.

By the time we got home it was nearly 8:00pm. I had the girls take a quick shower while I threw together a pizza. We really don't have pizza every night, it just seems that way sometimes. :)

After supper the girls got their backpacks ready for tomorrow and went to bed. Bobby and Mike settled in to watch a few minutes of TV while I checked email and started blogging.

I feel like I didn't get a thing done today. I still have a huge pile of laundry to do and the house is in disarray after the weekend. I have my work cut out for me tomorrow. :)
