Why 50s Housewife?
I chose to be The 50s Housewife for my blog not because I dress in 1950s clothes or live in a 1950s house (although I have to say I do love vintage clothes and houses). I wasn't even born until the 50s were over. I chose 50s Housewife because I love the optimism of the time and how family life was simpler and slower. No, the 50s were not perfect and there are so many things I wouldn't change about living in the times I do. I can't imagine being without the internet or many other recent innovations, but I love the old-fashioned way of making a home and raising a family and I love to wear a cute vintage apron while I do it.
In the 1950s being a housewife was not seen as a prison sentence and we modern day homemakers don't have to view it that way either! The modern retro housewife sees her home not as a cell, but as a creative project in progress. She doesn't have to be all things to all people and is free to be the queen of her home.
So tie on your best apron and join me as I watch Ozzie and Harriet instead of Ozzy and Sharon, organize and decorate my home, make simple comfort food for my family and try to do it all on a budget.
