My Family is what you might call "technology challenged". It's not that we don't like technology, we just don't have whatever is the latest "new thing".
My laptop was a freebie from my oldest son. All I had to pay for was a new power cord. Notice the cute electrical tape. That's to keep the cord from falling out of the back. The plug-in part is messed up so we are making sure it can't go anywhere although it still jiggles and turns off unexpectedly sometimes. :)
We don't have a flat panel TV, our TVs don't get a digital signal, and we don't even have Tivo.
Now, don't get me wrong I wouldn't turn down a new fancy TV (although I would much rather have a dishwasher), but we are getting along fine without one. No matter what you might be persuaded to think from watching commercials, you can still have a great life and even watch TV, check email and blog without that newest gadget. :)

Love it! This is a great reminder that we don't have to rush out for the latest, neatest, newest gadget or gizmo to have a perfectly lovely life with plenty of technology. Sometimes I think we need to hear this from others to know we're not alone and to be assured that consumerism is not the answer to happiness or fun.
Hey, looks just like my TV...
Can you tell my husband this?? ;) I'll admit that I'd like to have a flat panel for the LR b/c it would take up waaaaay less space than the horrid monstrosity he just had to have when we first moved in back in '03. ;)
Woo hoo for big tvs, though I would love a flat screen to put on the wall and clear up some space for all my vintage goodies. A gal can dream right. ♥
This is what I call FINE LIVING, having a great life without all the fancy trimmings and the debt to go with it. Good post!
Good for you! I have a 4 year old computer, an old tv, an old refrig, and I get along just fine. I also don't have bills, pymts, or credit card debt. My car is pretty old too, but it still runs. There are many other things I would rather have than a big flat TV!
I'm going to raise my hand - We have a flat panel TV. It's one of the smallest ones they make, in fact, it's got a smaller screen than the TV it replaced! My husband brought it home one day - sigh.
As technology improves, the prices go down. Digital point and shoot cameras brand new can be found for less than $100. I remember I paid over 300 for mine several years ago. Buying now will get you a great camera at a great price...Waiting is good. It's very good. :)
Sometimes I think my life would be better withOUT Tivo...I waste too much time watching all my recorded shows! Don't get it! =)
We have the same thing going on. My television is over 9 maybe 10 years old. It's only about 13 inches too. Our cell phones are old, my husband has had his forever. The only person keeping up is our 18 year old. She get it someday, you don't need to keep up with the Jone's to be happy.
Yeah, but once you have DVR, you will wonder how you ever watched TV without it. You just don't know what you are missing! It's like playing Atari after you've played a PS3 or listening to an 8 track after you've had an Ipod. :-) I love gadgets myself.

Nice blog.........
you know..I think we are spoiled...I am trying not to turn my tv on as much etc....
Hey girl, I like your style! We just eliminated all but the 'basic channels' for our TV. This gives me more time for the computer! heee-hee. We think we're doing pretty good if we can figure out how to save a phone number to our cell phone!!
Your TV looks exactly like ours, and ours is also deliberately unconnected to the broadcasting world. We've found that any shows we really want to watch will turn up on the internet or at the library eventually, and in the meantime, I can rest assured knowing that when my toddlers inevitably turn on the TV, they will either see nothing or something that I picked with them in mind. :)
That looks great! There are many other things I would rather have than a big flat TV! I love it...
