Childhood Favorite
I have had so much fun reading about your favorite gifts to give! You are all so thoughtful and creative!
While we're on the subject of Christmas gifts, I would like to know what was your favorite or most memorable gift that you received as a child?
I have to say that mine was the year I got a horse (I do live in Texas after all). We lived on a farm and after opening all the presents under the tree I was a little disappointed. My brother had opened several gifts and all I had was some candy in my stocking and a book. I didn't say a word though. I remember thinking that I didn't want to make my parents think I was ungrateful. Then my mother called me to come out to the front yard. There was my step-dad with a beautiful horse with a bow in her mane. I was thrilled to pieces!
You lived our dream...
ReplyDeleteOh wow, what a dream come true for a little girl! A memory you will never forget!
ReplyDeleteI remember the year I wanted a watch. When I opened the package, it was a toy one. I didn't say anything except thank you, but later in the day my Dad asked me to swap my toy watch with whatever he was holding in his hand. I didn't want to give up my toy watch! Eventually he persuaded me to open the little package...yes, you guessed it...a REAL watch! I'll always remember that moment! :)
Then Comes Wife: A Manhattan Wife's Journey Back To Tradition
ReplyDeleteMy favorite gift without hesitation was a Book entitle: The Fourteen Bears Summer and Winter.
I would spend hours looking at all the pictures and the decor in each tree house. That book is one of my favorites today...but it is out of print.
I told my husband that I would be eternally grateful if i got a copy for Christmas.
That is such a sweet Christmas memory!
ReplyDeleteI think for me it was the times spent with my brother and sister staring at the reflection of the colors from the color wheel onto our little aluminum tree.
What a wonderful Christmas that must have been !
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt it was when I got my Mrs. Beasley doll. I loved her like nobody's business! Every now and then I look and see if I can find another one. And from another Texas girl, what a wonderful gift that was for you!
ReplyDeleteDarling pic! My favorite childhood gift was when I got a kitchen set of both a sink and stove that was made out of metal and it came with accessories! I lurved it! Not surprising I still love to be in the kitchen today.
ReplyDeleteA pony! Every little girl's dream!
ReplyDeleteMy most memorable gift was Care Bears roller skates! I wanted them so bad and didn't think I was gonna get them, so when I opened them I squealed and jumped all over the house. I then promptly went out into the freezing December weather and roller skated all over the neighborhood!
I'd played the flute for 7 years and was working toward eventually going to conservatory. I wanted a new flute SO BADLY but knew we couldn't afford one. Then Christmas came and there it was -- a beautiful silver open-hole flute just for me. My parents had been saving some money my grandfather had left behind and they used it to buy the flute. I screamed so loudly I'm surprised the neighbors didn't call the police. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. Long-time reader of your blog, love it!

ReplyDeleteI told my husband the first Christmas we celebrated as a married couple, I wanted a Christmas baby, he wanted clarification, did i want to get pregnant at Christmas, or have a baby then, i said i don't care..Christmas Eve 1991, i found out baby # 3 was on the way..Then on Dec. 21,1995...baby#4 was born..I got pregnant Christmas 1996, and my 9th child was born a little over 2 weeks early on Dec. 13...i guess he was right after all and clarification was in order..
ReplyDeleteI really dont remember a certain gift...I just remember the wonderful tickle y feeling ..my Mother always made Christmas.... so special...after my parents got a divorce ..things were bad so the years just blended in sadness..so after I had my own children ..I always have tried to make it extra special...nice blog...

That was definitely a gift to remember especially with the initial disappointment.
ReplyDeleteFor three years I asked for a bike. Santa finally got me one (My granny got it) and left a note saying 'be sure to share it with Nicola', myh sister. That 'note' caused more trouble than anything! By the time I learned how to ride it, it was in bits:o( I am one of ten children!!!
