I made banana bread yesterday and my recipe calls for Crisco. I hate cleaning up a greasy measuring cup so I found a different way to measure it. I line the measuring cup with plastic wrap before I fill it with Crisco. Then all I have to do is pull out the plastic wrap, dump the contents in the mixing bowl and voila...a clean measuring cup! :)
Very nice. I am also a BIG fan of parchment paper. I use it all the time when baking, and especially when broiling, in the oven. It saves sooo much time on cleanup!
ReplyDeleteWhat a GREAT idea!!! I also like the Pampered Chef cup that you can PUSH it out and it really cleans the sides.....
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! Thank you so much for that tip! I was making a ton of icing last night and was thinking that there has to be a cleaner way of dealing with shortening. Yay! You have save my baking sanity.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! Havent heard from you in a looong time. How is your son? Hows the FRG thing going?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you are a genius and my new role model! WHY oh why did I never think of that!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! I will have to try that. I love reading your blog, its such an inspiration to me. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAren't you smart!

I don't know how I found you today, but I am s-o-o-o glad that I did! No time to go back and read your historical posts, but I will. Soon. I promise. Busy making my do-ahead Thanksgiving gravy that freezes so nicely. We have a ton of people (literally!) for the holiday and I love to do all the cooking. (I think that 35 people would weigh a ton, don't you?)
ReplyDeleteI am so happy I have found you!
That is completely genius! I have one of those fancy pampered chef measuring cups that push the stuff out, but they are the biggest pain to use. Now I can get rid of it!
ReplyDeleteMartha Stewart eat yer heart out - my chum "50's housewife" is even smarter! LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat idea - thanks for sharing!
Coolness.....go the extra mile and save the little plastic wrap in the freezer (just fold over) then get it out when you need to greese a cookie sheet! We save our butter wrappers for this....same basic concept though :)
ReplyDeleteI hate working with shortening but it is one of those necessary evils when it comes to cooking/baking. This tip is great, and I also like the comment about using butter wrappers. Great way to recycle!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! Thanks for sharing! Although I rarely buy C. anymore! :)
ReplyDeleteWow that is a great tip. I use plastic wrap to grease my pans. So my hands stay clean.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great tip! Many thanks- I don't do too much baking, I'm still learning, but I keep a little file with all these sorts of tips and yours is going right in! :)
ReplyDeleteI hate cleaning up shorting too, and I use the Pampered Chef Wonder Cup, as several others have commented, it's kind of a pain to use......your idea is FANTASTIC!!!!
