Baked Potatoes

I love my slow cooker and today I am making baked potatoes in it. In the morning, just wash your potatoes, pierce them with a fork, wrap in foil and place in your slow cooker. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours. It's so convenient to make them this way, plus I don't have to heat up the kitchen on an Indian summer day like today.

Tonight I'll make up some taco meat and we'll have that along with shredded cheese and salsa on our baked potatoes.

  1. I love my slow cooker(s), but I didn't realize you could bake potatoes in them! This would be great for a pototoe bar for dinner. Thanks for the tip.

  2. I've done potatoes in my slow cooker before, and it worked great! I love the idea of using taco meat on your potatoes, that sounds delicious.

  3. I, too, have done baked potatoes in my crock pot before. It's a great way to do it.

The taco meat sounds good. I've used chili lots of time, but hadn't thought of doing taco meat.

  4. I mix taco meat with canned Wolf Brand Chili and it is heartier and isn't so rich. We love it that way.

  5. That is a fabulous idea that I will try. Do you have to wrap them in foil or would they cook without it? I have a bizarre fear of my crock pot.. I have used it occasionally but I am always afraid things won't turn out so I wimp out and don't use it. I know the fear wold abate if I would just try more things... it's on the homemaking "to do" list. :)

  9. My crockpot is my very favorite kitchen servant!

Sorry I don't share the enthusiasm for crockpot-baked potatoes, though. Maybe y'all know something I don't know?

We like our baked potatoes dry, and the crock ones seem more like steamed than baked. Any comments, hints, etc are appreciated!

  12. armchair housewife, you could probably do it without the foil. I think the foil just helps it to retain the heat.

wonderful life, no I don't add any water.

  13. Do the potatoes get a crispy skin?

We rarely eat baked potatoes because of the time they take in the oven, but love love love the skins to be crisp.

We wash, dry, and prick our potatoes. Then, rub butter or oil over them, and sprinkle a little salt over. Then they go in the oven for at least 1 1/2 hours.
