Reading the Bible

The Bible offers so much wisdom and has helped me be a better wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. I would not have survived 24 years of motherhood without it. :)I struggle with worry, weariness, anger...so many things that the Bible has answers for.

To make it easier for me to spend time reading the Bible, I have learned a few tricks over the years.

* I keep a notepad nearby so that when those distracting thoughts of things I need to do that day or items I need to pick up at the grocery store come up I can just write them down and move on.
* Play some music. Having classical or jazz music playing softly in the background helps me to concentrate.
* Have a favorite drink nearby. If it's early morning I like to have a cup of coffee while I read.
* Keep the Bible nearby. Obviously you'll be more likely to read it if it's handy. I have one on my bedside table, one near my favorite chair in the living room and I also have a small paperback copy of The Message that I carry around with me. I can read while I'm waiting for the kids to finish with after school activities or while I'm waiting in the drive through line at the bank.

Love,

I love to start my day off by reading from my Bible. It is very true that the Bible contains answers/help for just about everything we have to deal with in our daily lives. I too keep my Bible handy. My main Bible - being the one I take to church and also make notes in stays by my bedside, I have one in the living room and I have one of those pocket sized New Testaments (w/ Psalms) in my car and boy has that one come in handy many a time!

Ah, i've been really bad and neglecting my Bible lately :( Easter's coming up and i always feel like a new person, so i'm gonna get myself into gear and sort myself out.
The Bible and Jesus has helped me out through some of the toughest times of the last few years, i could never be without either of them. What a very inspiring post. xx

My best days start with the Word, and a warm cup of tea, and they continue when I fill my house with quiet peaceful music. It calms the atmosphere.

I like the way The Message reads like a novel.

The day always seems better when we start off with the Lord in charge!! It may not always be a perfect day but we are equipped to handle whatever comes much better when we have spent time with HIm. Have a blessed Weekend
Love your new blog look!

It is a wonderful thing to start (and end) the day with the Lord! We are so blessed to be able to do so.

Your new blog look is so inviting! Makes me want to change mine! LOL

Great picture! I could just pull up a chair and dive right in! :)

I find that when ever I am NOT in a study, I neglect my daily time with Jesus. But when I am doing a study, like the 11 week I am in now, I've got scripture to study and prayer time and I'm much more disciplined to stay in the daily routine. I'm already praying about I'll be doing next after this is over because I KNOW I need my daily fix!

Great post!

I am the opposite of you...I have to have peace and quiet when I study YHWH's word. Silence makes me remember more. :)
I do keep note paper, index cards, pens and highlighters handy as well.

Now, when I pray, I don't mind some music in the background. :)

Blessings,
Dawn
