Mini Vacation

We no sooner returned from visiting the boys on the East Coast than we decided on the spur of the moment to take another vacation. This time a "mini" vacation. We stayed with retrohousewife (the poor woman had 14 people in her house) and enjoyed the old Texas favorite summer pastime of tubing the river.

We cooked enormous amounts of food, got sunburned (despite repeated SPF 50 applications) in the triple digit heat and generally had a great time. I did have one bad moment when I encountered a snake on the river that I shudder to think about. I'll save that story for another day after I've had a chance to get over it. If the kids will quit laughing about my flailing arms and panicked screaming that is. Maybe in a year or two. :) We also saw lizards, deer, turtles and a beaver, plus some random wild animals scarfing down huge amounts of bottled water, Dr. Pepper and hot dogs (also known as husbands and children).

So basically I've been traveling for what seems like months. My Suburban is completely filthy and my house has the dust coating to prove how neglected it is. I wonder if I'll ever catch up on the laundry. If I disappear under Mt. Washmore please send someone to search for me.

Aaaahhh! The joys of Summer!

What a nice post. My family has a ranch outside of Austin, Tx and we go tubing down the stream that flows through it. Actually, I will be there in about 2 weeks! Other then the snake, it sounds like you had a wonderful time. And the best part about vacations is how much you appreciate your home when you return. Have a wonderful weekend.

I am going to guess you did the Guadalupe river or the San Marcos River. Either way you saw the raw part of Texas which is my favorite part! Dr Pepper is fed intravenously to my Dunk on occasion! He truly loves the "Dublin Dr Pepper", made with Imperial Pure Cane Sugar. A Texas product through and through!

Glad you are back home, Texas is glad to have you anytime!

I wish I were tubing right this minute. It is so hot in South Texas-same song, second verse.

Your travels sound wonderful-

We returned home from a 5 day camping trip with our large family, and a bunch of teen-age friends, we had 17 people in all, and my washing machine hasn't stopped yet!!!

I don't think my grocery budget will recover until the children go back to school. I am feeding 14-16 people for supper regularly. We just stop eating when the food runs out....
