Today I want to show you these beautiful drinking glasses. My mother bought them back in the early 60s. Everything was more formal then and she used these glasses for entertaining. They have real gold in an intricate design with blue diamond shapes (I was cautioned to never put them in the dishwasher).

I was never allowed to drink out of them as a kid and had to admire them from afar, so I was thrilled when Mom gave them to me a few years ago. I have 8 of them. My kids don't seem as fascinated with them as I was, but the do enjoy using them on occasion and I like to get one out whenever I need a little lift. Even if I'm only drinking iced tea, when I use one of these glasses I feel like Grace Kelly! :) Don't hide away your beautiful things! Get them out and enjoy them!

I need to get out mt vintage glasses. I keep them hiden away, but thanks for the advice.
I have so old carousel animal glasses I never use either, I was actually thinking of selling them at a yard sale. But I have to comment on your video.. Rear Window, my favorite movie and Grace Kelly,,, elegant as can be. I love when she takes out her boudoir set in that little suitcase. She is so classy!
When I see something that reminds me of my childhood it doesn't mean near as much to my kids either. I am going to book mark your site and come back and look around. I like your title! We are raising our 5 kids the old time way too.
I think we all have things that put away and we don't think of them. For myself. looking at so many blogs with so many beautiful treasures, it has made me want to dig all of my little things out and display them. What fun!
Your glasses are lovely.

Those are very nice. I have a set from the fifties, I use them once in a while, and I have them in my cabinet with my other so I see them everytime I open it. It's very nice to have them for the memories, and to remind us of years gone by. I'll take some pics. I like your idea of show and tell Friday. Very nice post.
Have a good weekend. Joyce
I think we need a little bit more of Grace Kelly formality in our lives, don't you? The glasses are lovely.
I remember some filligree type glasses similar to yours, maybe they were the same I don't know. I haven't seem them since I was a kid.
Do you remember green stamps? My mom used to use them to get things too.
Beautiful glasses! Oh this is one of my FAVORITE movies. I have the words almost memorized. Grace Kelly was so beautiful in her outfits wasn't she?
They are beautiful and so elegant looking.. no wonder you feel like Grace when using them. Thanks for sharing your precious memory of them and their beauty with us today.
Have a Blessed weekend,
Hugs,
Debbie
I received glasses very similar to those for a wedding present in 1974. I think they were called Venetian glasses.
I have other advice. Never let your new husband do dishes. If I remember, he broke all of them over a couple years time.
All these years later, I now have a kitchen without a dishwasher again. He gets to watch the plastic. Do you think perhaps he did that on purpose to get out of dishwashing?
Thanks for the memory. My mom had the very same glasses! Unfortunately, I don't know what happened to them. :-/ I'm glad you're going to get to enjoy yours.
Love these glasses...I have many items from the 50's myself...
Blessings,
Susie
P.S.
Poor Jan...she was always forgotten about on the Brady Bunch...:)
Hollywood Regency designs like this make my heart flutter. I love glasses like these, so ornate and fancy.
Those glasses are just beautiful! My mother-in-law had some of them, in a couple of sizes. She never even let the grown-ups use them. They were "just to look at". I'm glad you have those from your mom.
i gave you an award! check out my blog to see it :)
Your glasses remind me of Moroccan tea glasses! I love the clip of Grace and Jimmy! That is my favorite movie!! Well, next to the Long Long Trailer...I go back and forth! Thanks for sharing!
Your glasses are beautiful! I believe in using the things we have and not hiding them away!
