I have been looking at bedding online and in every store that had a bedding section for the past few months trying to decide what I wanted. I was tempted to get something completely different than what I had that would require an entire room re-do (and maybe even master bathroom re-do), but I restrained myself. :) I decided on white so that it would go with what we currently have, but would also fit in well if we repaint or make some other changes (like the headboard project that I'll get to one of these days). I also knew that I wanted a comforter and bedskirt instead of a bedspread. It's so much easier to make the bed when you have a comforter.
So without further ado, here is a tour of my new and improved bedroom. :)
The bedspread has a damask pattern, but it doesn't show up in the picture. I put the quilt across the cedar chest at the foot of the bed.
Mike thought I was crazy to hang plates on the wall. :) I'll be on the lookout at local thrift stores for more to add to the display.

My antique vanity table. The girls love to sit here and comb their hair. It's missing a couple of knobs and I'm hoping to eventually find some suitable replacements.

My bedside table. It would probably look better if I took the glass off, but it gets dusty so quickly that I would have to wash the table cloth at least once a week. This way I just dust the glass weekly and wash the tablecloth once a month. By the way, I have a huge stack of books hidden under there. :) Oh, and do you like my little polka dot reading glasses? Unfortunately I can't read without them.
By the way I am deliberately not showing you Mike's bedside table. His looks very similar to mine except that it is covered with change, about 10 books, a flashlight, a cross made with nails that a friend gave him, the remote control (yes we have a TV in the bedroom), some pencils, highlighters...Well, you get the idea. He's a bit of a clutter bug, but I love him anyway. ;)

Your room looks very pretty.
And I am so happy for you, I felt your pain when you wrote about your raggedy spread.
I don't like to wait for things but I usually appreciate them more if I did have to wait.
enjoy your new room!
Very very pretty. I enlarged the picture of your bed and it just looks so cozy comfy. I like your style of decorating.
It looks lovely. I really like the simplicity and elegance of the plain whits bedspread.
My goodness, it just looks fabulous!!!! Good choice! I love how airy and clean it looks wtih your walls. And your bedside table looks so cute and welcoming. Just love it!
I collect plates from places we travel and they are on the kitchen in my kitchen along with some plates from my great grandmother. I have a bowl from my husband's grandmother as well. I don't think it's weird, they are too pretty to not show off.
What causes so much dust. It's the bane of my existence. We know longer have indoor cats (the dog only comes in at night) but I constantly fight dust. I covered my dresser with glass too, to protect the wood from my nightly medicine taking glass.
I love the new bedspread! The plates are the perfect touch. My husband thought I was crazy too...when I hung antique plates all over!
I love them!!!!
Blessings...Julie
That looks so nice! I love the plate on the wall idea. Love it. Unfortunately, I can't copy that idea, since I live in the land of earthquakes!
Beautiful!! I love the pinks. I just got an electric blanket today in the mail. I will be toasty warm tonight!! I haven't had an electric blanket in over 17 years so I am happy!
I was surprised to see the quilt at the foot of the bed! I have one that is almost a duplicate...it was my first purchase of an 'antique' quilt! Your BR looks lovely!
OH wow!!! I have that exact same vanity table!! It's currently residing under the basement steps until it can get refinished. It's been used by 4 girls and rather abused. I have no idea where it came from, if it was my mom's or what, but I'm going to put it in my grand-daughters' guest room along with the gentleman's dresser with a marble top that is from my dh's side.
How neat that we both have one. :)
Good job on the redo! I love the quilt at the foot of the bed.
If you keep your eye out, you will find knobs...we have an amazing antiques mall here (read: junk store galore) and they are always turning up there.
Polka dots are my fave!
Oh housewife....you have got to get an OLD WOODEN DOOR and make it into a headboard.....would go so well with your new bedspread. I love it!! Google old door headboard and see how people are making them.....
I love the door idea! I've seen it on HGTV! I guess when I come visit you Spring Break, we will have a headboard project to do! LOL

Husbands just dont get it :)
I just found your blog and had to tell you - I LOVE it!
I love the plates on the wall!! I think it gives a different look for a headboard and very creative. Great looks and great ideas for keeping the cost down. Congrats!
I love it and I think the plates are perfect!
I have an old door for a head board like someone else said. Mine was covered in lead paint so my husband put a protective cover of clear polyurathane (sp?) I also have plates about my bed. I also collect old plates when I can find them for little money. Over the years I have enough that they go all around the top of my bedroom wall like a 'wall paper border' would go. I love them. I do not think I paid but .50 for each of them. Some were from my grandmother. I love your new spread. My own spread is getting pretty shabby. I will be making a cover for it when I can find some sheets on sale. Roxie
tell mike that i have plates on my wall too! lol
i love what you did!
I LOVE it!!!!
I know you are going to think I am making this up, but I have the same exact plates hanging in my youngest child's room. AND, it is painted that exact shade of green.
I swear I am telling the truth.
The only difference is that I have a hobnail (candlewick/Bates-type) designed bedspread.
Your bed looks beautiful! I really like the plates on the wall! I love the cottage style- I plan to look for cool stuff like plates and table cloths at garage sales this spring!
The pink looks great, by the way!
I just discovered your blog from Carol's Heirloom Collection. I adore your antique vanity and those Cinderella shoes! But I'm working on my masters and PhD in the history of textiles and apparel so anything to do with "dressing" really appeals to me. I love your blog! I look forward to returning soon.
