Make Do Monday: Bedspread

Ann Kroeker has a great new carnival "dedicated to sharing the creative, frugal or even humble ways we’re making-do." I think this is a terrific idea! Be sure to head over and read about her Christmas pajama ordeal.

My Make Do Monday is about my bedspread. You may recall that I recently mentioned I want a new one. The current one is worn out and has holes in it. And by holes, I don't mean small, barely noticeable holes, but huge holes where you can see the blanket underneath.

A new bedspread is just not in the budget at the moment, so I decided to find a way to make do. I pulled out an old quilt that I love (although it's almost as shabby as my bedspread) and spread it on top. It's a twin size quilt, so it doesn't cover the whole bed. I guess you could call it the layered look. At least it adds some warmth and looks better than all those holes. Sort of adds to the cottage charm of my bedroom don't you think? :)

Oh, that's a great solution--old quilts look super-charming, too. Very Shabby Chic/Cottage. I think you can get by with this until you save up or find a great sale price for your next bedspread.

But I will say that the old bedspread certainly appears to have done its part and served a good, long time. And it continues to help with that layered look!

I love your creativity and am so glad you joined Make-Do Mondays!

You know what's funny is that when the kids saw it they thought I got a new bedspread. I guess it worked! :)

What a darling idea! Beautiful and cozy, too. As a homeschooling mom on one income, I'm always looking for ways to "make do."

If you need a chuckle to brighten your day, drop on over anytime. Today's post is Pastors and False Teeth. Blessings!

I love the look of quilts better on beds than bedspreads or comforters. KEEP IT!!!!

Hand made quilts are the very, very best! I often make quilts using scraps from my husbands and my childrens old cotton clothes!
So cozy and warm and just oozes of family!

I love the quilt! I'm a new quilter, so I have a real appreciation for all the work that goes into one ;) I just may have to start a new project with small squares like this one; thanks for the inspiring photo.

Just found your blog a few days ago. I think read almost every post that first day! What a terrific idea for a blog. Your posts are so inspiring. It has been very motivational for me. In fact, I loved the pics of your bedroom so much, that I redid mine today to look very similar.
(I also have green walls in mine, although mine are a bit darker green.) So, I got a pink comforter set today. I
even got lucky and found a pastel colored quilt w/shams at Goodwill today! It is so shabby chic! I love it!

Just wanted to say thanks for inspiring me! Keep up the good work!

Sincerely,
Amaranthe
