Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas and Happy NewYear, Winter in Suburbia
Winter in Suburbia

Can you believe it's already 2009? This past year has flown by.

I usually don't like to make a long detailed list of resolutions every year; mostly because I don't want to set myself up for failure. I do however, like to start off the new year with a vision and with hope. I have three main areas of my life that I want to work on this year and sharing them here with you will help to keep me on track.

God:
My overarching goal for 2009 is to continue growing in my walk with God. I want to always seek him in His word and in prayer. I'm hoping to finish my plan of reading through the Bible and I also want to be consistent about praying for my husband and children. When I make this my top priority, everything else will fall into place. I also want to be more consistent in memorizing Bible verses with the kids.

Family:
I want to focus on making memories with the kids and really enjoying them this year. Kids grow up so quickly and before I know it we will be empty nesters. We don't have to go on fancy vacations or spend a lot of money to create special memories.

Finance:
Last year, I started off really well with saving money and working toward our financial goals, but by the end of the year, I was letting things slide. I want to get back on track with our budget and rebuild our savings (we used most of our savings toward my vehicle). A great first step in getting control of your finances is to use mint.com. It's free online personal finance software. It was a real eye opener to see that pie chart of exactly where our money is going. Our food spending in December was completely ridiculous so that's one of the areas I need to start on immediately.

Do you have goals or resolutions for the new year?

Hello! I've been lurking here for...ever? LOL!! I've just begun blogging a little while ago and actually am just getting around to saying 'hi'! I too, am a christian and have a 'Lucy' thing going on. I'd like to invite you (and anyone else) to come take a little poll (it's done in fun, really) at my blog!

I agree with the finances...you try so hard all year and then Christmas comes! Between presents and special events...the budget kind of gets thrown out the window. Thanks for the link for the free software. I am going to have to check it out. Happy new Year!

My main goals this year are financial. Don't feel too bad about overspending on food for December. Think of all the extra cooking you did for the holidays, I know around here, all of the cookies, cakes and other stuff we baked to give as gifts came out of our food budget and made it look like we spent a lot more than usual.

Those are very excellent goals for the new year! Mine are very, very similar. Hope your 2009 is a great one!
